People
The HATTON family
The HATTON family of the Childrey area dealt with the
FETTIPLACE family whose family seats were in Letcombe Regis, Berks and Swinbrook, Oxon.
The manor of West Challow in the parish of
Letcombe Regis was purchased by one Thomas HATTON and others in 1802. HATTON died in
1804 leaving the manor to be sold for the benefit of his sons William
HATTON and Richard Belcher HATTON. [Page & Ditchfield, 1924, n.p.]
One
Joseph BELCHER of Sparsholt married Charlotte HATTON of Childrey
on 8 May 1800 at Childrey. On 15 Feb 1801 they christened a son Richard
Hatton BELCHER
No clear link has been identified with the HATTON family of
Widford, Oxon.
The
IGI identifies a Thomas HATTON
born in Childrey about 1709 to a father called John HATTON, however as
there is no christening date this could be conjecture. This could be a
candidate for Thomas
HATTON of Widford.
The
BUNCE family
The
BUNCE family of Childrey had connections with
Shilton, Oxon.,
by the marriage of Ann BUNCE, sister of William BUNCE of Childrey, to
Thomas OSMAN. On 5 Jun 1665 she was mentioned in a Deed Poll as Anne
OSMAND widow, sister of William BUNCE of Childrey, Berks, yeoman, and
of Richard BUNCE of Shilton alias Shulton, Berks, yeoman.
Witnessed by Cha. TRINDER, Tho. CROFT, Thomas BUNCE. [Oxfordshire
Record Office Catalogue, Bradwell Grove Estate, Oxfordshire,
Hey/VIII/i/1]
On
11 May 1717, as Anne BECKINSALE, she was leased an orchard and garden
in Shilton to James BUSBY for 99 years. [Oxfordshire Record Office
Catalogue, Bradwell Grove Estate, Oxfordshire, Hey/VIII/i/4]
They were also connected to the local PIGOTT family,
descendents of
whom sold the manor of West Challow in the parish of
Letcombe Regis, Oxon., to one Thomas HATTON and others in 1802. [Page & Ditchfield, 1924, n.p.]
