Location and general description

6061c1.jpgHinton is situated between Abingdon and Farringdon on the hills that skirt the southern eadge of the Isis flood plain. Hinton Waldrish is about 2 Km WNW of Kingston Bagpuize and 1 Km W of Longworth. Buckland lies 2 Km to the west.

Contains at least one LODER memorial, but was not open at the time of our visit.



People

The LODER family

The LODERs of Hinton Waldrist were lords of the manor and they married into a JORDAN family of Burford, Oxon., when in 1725 John JORDAN (abt 1708-1770), of Burford, Oxon., married Ann LODER (1703-1744) of Hinton. John went on to become Lord of the Manor of Kencott, Oxon

The SOUTHBY family

For some reason the papers relating to the enclosure of Aldbourne, Wilts., contain a copy of the 1796 Will of Henry SOUTHBY of Hinton Waldrish, Berks.
