An attractive gritstone built village, located high in the Derbyshire peak district. Eyam's fame as a former 'plague village' tends to somewhat eclipse its other history. On the day of our visit in 2008 we were forced to cut short our visit by sudden blizzard conditions!
In the 17th C the hall was the residence for a time of Thomas
BRAY. In 1641 BRAY sold various fixtures and fittings to a Mr
William WRIGHT (Derbyshire Record Office: Wright of Eyam Hall,
D5430/14/1). The house has been in the WRIGHT family for the last 300
years (Eyam Hall web site).
In the 18th C , Pierce GALLIARD of Edmonton, Middx, resided here, his father Joshua GALLIARD having married Elizabeth BRADSHAW a daughter of the BRADSHAW's of Eyam. Pierce also had links with Enfield, Middx, and Burford, Oxon, where he owned various land.
