Location and General Description
Located in the
south of Essex, a very brief visit gave the impression of a flat area
that's current appearance owes a lot to 20th C growth.
Buildings
St Nicholas' Church
In the graveyard is a square grave surround with
the inscription
"In loving memory of Mary Ann SCOTT died 23rd December 1932 aged 81
years also of John SCOTT died 6th January 1916 aged 67 years." (capitalization is mine). Mary was
the daughter of John
KIRBY of Benfleet (1815-1876).

KIRBY of Benfleet (1815-1876) lived in nearby
Romford Road, Aveley,
Essex and had connections with the village. On Census returns
Romford Road is sometimes listed under South Ockendon. John
and his wife Susan were both buried in South Ockendon.
