Location and general description

Lying to the NE of London and on the edge of Epping Forsest. Loughton became a fashionable area to live during the 19th C.

Ernest HICKS took advantage of a government scheme to have the property built.

The HICKS family

In the 19th C the HICKS family were well known in the Loughton community, having in their midst a local postmaster, a midwife and a coal merchant.
